- Open the Device Manager.
Windows 7: Right-click the Windows icon at the bottom left, then select "Control Panel" -> "System and Security" -> "System" -> "Device Manager".
Windows 10/11: Right-click on the Windows logo at the bottom left, then select "Device Manager". - Expand the category Network adapters. If there is an entry with the name "TAP-Windows Adapter V9", please uninstall it completely (including the driver).
- Restart the system. Please make sure that you select "Restart", because "Shutdown" by default does not trigger a clean restart.
- Now the Online Shield should be able to repair itself successfully and install the required TAP Adapter.
If there are problems with the adapter installation even after these steps, it might be blocked by your firewall or antivirus program or there are already VPN adapters on the system blocking the installation. If necessary, please deactivate these sources of interference temporarily and then try again.
