You have several options to import already existing keychains into your Steganos Password Manager.
Import from a keychain file
Select this option if you want to include a keychain that comes from an older version of Password Manager or from another PC.
- Start Steganos Password Manager.
- Select "File" -> "Import" -> "Steganos Password Manager Keychain" from the program's menu bar at the top.
- A window will open in your Windows Explorer. Now simply select the keychain file where your keychain is stored and click "Open".
Steganos keychains come in two different file formats.
- Files with the extension ".spm" come from Steganos Password Manager 20 or newer. When you import a ".spm" file, it is copied to the default folder for keychains (%appdata%\Steganos\keychains) and included in the program.
- Files with ".esf" extension are from Steganos Password Manager 19 or older. When you import an ".esf" file, it is copied and merged into a keychain file in the new ".spm" format. The original ".esf" file is retained and can continue to be used in older versions of Steganos Password Manager if required.
Import from a cloud storage
If you have synchronized your keychain with a cloud storage, you can easily mount it on another or new device. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Start Steganos Password Manager.
- Select "File" -> "Start" from the menu bar.
- Click on "I want to load a keychain from a cloud storage".
- Select the cloud provider where your keychain was stored, e.g. "Use Dropbox".
- Your browser opens and displays the login screen for the cloud service. Please log in with your data and then return to Steganos Password Manager.
- Steganos Password Manager will now indicate that it has successfully connected to the cloud storage. Click on "Close".
- An overview with your available keychains will now open. Keychains that are available in the cloud storage but are not yet on your device are marked with a cloud icon. Select the desired keychain and click on "Open keychain".
- Your keychain will now be downloaded. Enter your password and click "OK" to open it.
Import from a Steganos CSV file
If you have saved a keychain as a Steganos CSV file, you can reintegrate it using this option. Proceed as follows:
- Start Steganos Password Manager.
- Create a new keychain with the desired name. To do this, select "File" -> "New..." from the menu bar.
- After the new keychain has been created and opened, select "File" -> "Import" -> "Steganos CSV-Keychain" in the menu bar.
- The Windows Explorer will open. Now select the CSV file in which your keychain is stored and click "Open".
- The entries from the CSV file will now be copied to your keychain.
- After you have made sure that all desired entries are included in the new keychain and that it works as desired, you should delete the CSV file, because it contains your password data in unencrypted form.
